ACTIVITIES REPORT APRIL - JULY 2008

3.0.             CLUB MEETINGS

Meetings are held on Saturdays at 2pm at the Redcliff Lions Den.

4.0.             ANNUAL LEOS  D412 CONVENTION  21 - 24 MARCH

Our club was privileged to host the Convention at the Redcliff Lions Den, which saw the attendance of over 87 Leos from 19 Clubs within the District

5.0.             COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES

5.1.             PUMULA CAMP CLEAN UP – SATURDAY 17 MAY

Pumula Camp is a residential compound built by the Lions Club of Redcliff.  We cleaned up the camp by picking papers and slashing grass within and outside the camp, with the help of Batanai Leos.

5.2.             REDCLIFF SHOPPING MALL CLEAN UP – SATURDAY 7 JUNE

This was held in commemoration of World Environment Day (5 June) with the aid of Batanai Leos.

5.3.             RUTENDO HOME FOR THE AGED DONATION – SATURDAY 5 JULY

We made a trip to the Home and presented the 6 residents with 10kgs Mealie Meal, 4kgs Sugar, 2l Cooking Oil, Royco Soups and Washing soap. One of our Leos contributed 2kgs sugar towards the donation (see 15.0.)

6.0.             FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

6.1.             MR & MISS LEO – SATURDAY 26 APRIL

We held this event at the Redcliff Hotel and managed to raise over $7,2billion (see 14.0.) which we used to purchase food stuffs for the Rutendo Home donation. NUST Leo President Andisen and Batanai Leos helped out at the function.

7.0.             BRAAI/SOCIAL – SATURDAY 14 JUNE

We had a social with Batanai Leos and friends at the Cactus Port Dam in Redcliff. This is also a Lions Project as they are working to refurbish the area.

8.0.             TWINNING

We hold most of our projects with Batanai Leos. We are currently twinning with Leo Clubs of Harare West and Univerisity of Zimbabwe. Also, University Teaching Hospital D413 Zambia, Dopemu Leo Club and Akowonjo Leo Club D404b Lagos Nigeria, CEG Leo Club in India, Kathmandu Kingdom Leo Club D325a in Nepal and Santa Rosa Leo Club D03 in Argentina. One of the outstanding projects done by Santa Rosa Leos is for every 1000 plastic container tops they collect, a child receives leukaemia or cancer treatment.

9.0.             INDUCTIONS

Leos Catherine and Tinta conducted the Induction at Goldridge College Kwekwe on 22 May. Leo Tinta accompanied Region II Chairperson Leo Brian to the Peterhouse College Induction in Marondera on 31 May.    

10.0.         LIONS ACTIVITIES

10.1.         REDCLIFF LIONS CLUB MEETINGS

We attend Lions Clubs meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month.

10.2.         KADOMA CHARTER DINNER – TUESDAY 29 APRIL

Leo Tinta attended the ceremony held at Kadoma International Conference Centre.

10.3.         BATANAI OLD AGED HOME DONATION – TUESDAY 13 MAY

Leos Catherine and Tinta attended the Gweru Lions Donation Ceremony for the Batanai Home in Gweru.

10.4.         INTERSCHOOLS QUIZ – THURSDAY 31 JULY

Leo Catherine helped our sponsoring Redcliff Lions in organising the quiz at St Stephens Church Hall in Kwekwe.

11.0.         DISTRICT ACTIVITIES

11.1.         D413 ZAMBIA CONVENTION & REGIONAL CONFERENCE 18-20 APRIL

Leos Tinta and Catherine were privileged to attend the Convention held at Northern Technical College in Ndola.

11.2.         LIONS D412 49TH CONVENTION 1-4 MAY, MALAWI

Leo Tinta attended the Convention held at Sun n' Sand Resort in Mangochi Malawi.

12.0.         PUBLICITY

On 13 June the local Midlands Observer Newspaper published an article on the Leos Convention and our club activities.
