1.0. INTRODUCTION
Firstly, I would like to congratulate LRII Chairperson Leo Brian Sairai, Kutama School Alphas and their patron for all the hard work they put into making this a very successful District 2nd Council Meeting. Thank you.
It is indeed encouraging to see such a large gathering, despite the harsh economic conditions in our country today. Your attendance is appreciated. I hope we will have a very informative meeting.

2.0. MEMBERSHIP
To date there are still only 28 Leo clubs registered at LCI. Regardless, our membership continues to grow as we see the formation of new clubs. I would like to specially mention Kriste Mambo Alphas in Region II and Lilongwe Technical Leo Club in Region I.

3.0. DISTRICT ACTIVITIES
Region III and Region V Leos had their regional meetings in September. I attended both meetings held in Redcliff and Lobatse respectively. This gave me an opportunity to meet Leos in Region V, collectively, as I had intended on making club visits during the 1st Quarter of the year.
On both occasion I gave a presentation on the Lion/Leo Relationship, which I am very passionate about. I will keep stressing the importance of maintaining a good relationship with our Sponsoring Lions, as this builds trust and allows us to serve our communities better.

4.0. CLUB VISITS
Since the last Council Meeting, I only managed to visit Camelot Alphas in Kwekwe in September. Due to financial constraints, I was not able to attend inductions at Fletcher High in Gweru, Kyle College and Victoria High School in Masvingo. Nevertheless, I still intend to visit Region I in the 2nd Quarter of the year.

5.0. LIONS ACTIVITIES
The Lions 1st Zone E Meeting was held at the Redcliff Lions Den on 30 August 2008. I was able to attend this meeting. I would like to encourage Leos to attend Lions meetings whenever possible.

6.0. CONCLUSION
As we approach the festive season, let us remember our pledge ‘to serve’. Give to those less fortunate and continue to perform ‘Miracles through Service’ as we aim to be ‘Everyday Heroes’ in our communities.

PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

1. Campaign

We carried out a thereby campaign from the 18^th-20^th August 2008 at the University of Botswana Student Centre. The aim of the activity was to recount new members to the club. The event was very successful, as we managed to recount a lot of new members.

2. Installation of the office bearers

The 2008/2009 office bearers were installed on 24^th August 2008, by Lion David Nkwe, the club’s advisor.

3. Bookstall Launch

We are carrying out a bookstall at the club office in UB. The stall was officially launched on the 26^th September 2008 at UB Student Centre. We also printed at some memorandums and leaflets to ask for donations in the form of book and novels that we will be selling at the bookstall.

5. Litter picking

The project was carried out on the 27^th September 2008 (during the region meeting) in Lobatse Secondary School. This was a twinning project between Leo Clubs of Gaborone West (UB) and Leo Club of Lobatse. We were also joined by other clubs who attended the Region meeting.

6..Selling of blood donation T-Shirts Blood donation t-shirts which were left during the post campaigns were sold to club members at P5 as a fundraising activity.

7. Blood Donation

This semester’s blood donation campaign was a great success. The event ran from the 20-24^th October 2008, on both UB campuses (FET and the main campus). 217 donors graced the activity at the FET campus and 331 donor donated at the main campus. We were working in conjunction with the Nation Blood Transfussion Services who provided biscuits and drinks for donor and the Health & Wellness Centre in UB who provided t-shirts for donors.

8. Food Trolley

Initially we had put up a food trolley at two busy Supermarkets in Gaborone, Pick n Pay in Riverwalk at Kgale Super Spar in Game City, for people to donate food and toiletry items. This was not bearing fruit as people were not donating and were deciding to go to the stores to encourage people to donate on the 25^th and 26^th of October 2008. We collected over 200 items of food and toiletry and cash amounting to P2121.70.

9. Dinner Dance

The 2^nd Annual Dinner Dance was held on the 8^th of November 2008, at the University of Botswana New Staff Large. Our guest of honour was Hon MP for Gaborone Central DR Dumelang Saleshando and Lions also attended the event. The event was a great success.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

1. University of Botswana’s unveiling of the logo

We were invited by the University of Botswana Student Representative Council to participate in the Unveiling of the new us Logo. We put up a stall and educated people more about our club.

2. University of Botswana World Aids Day Commemoration

We also participated in the commemoration of the World AIDS day in UB, and the 1^ST December 2008 where were gave a speech about what we do in our club to fight AIDS.

Where: 2nd Council Meeting-Kutama College-Zimbabwe.

Greetings fellow Leos, Lions and Patrons.

This report is the same as the one presented at the first council meeting as nothing much has happened since then even though clubs are active ( Please refer to individual clubs reports for club activities).

First off, my apologies for not being present at this council meeting for reasons beyond my control.

I took over from Leo Hazi after the last Leo convention and we worked together up until the end of the Leoistic year. During this time I’ve been faced with the challenge of uniting a rather scattered region which has never been easy for my predecessors. There are 10 active Clubs in the region:

1. Leo Club of G-West

2. Leo club of Kgalemang

3. Leo Club of Mahalapye

4. Leo Club of Tsodilo

5. Leo Club of Molepolole

6. Leo Club of Madiba

7. Leo Club of Swaneng

with most being rather inactive such clubs are

1. Leo Club of Mater Spei

2. Leo club of Selebi-Phikwe

3. Leo club of Serowe-Ikageng

4. Leo Club of Ranokanyane

These are clubs which have been chattered but have since got out of action for various reasons, and we are working on reviving these clubs.

However, there has also been entrance to the region by new clubs which are yet to be chattered. These are Prospective Leo clubs of:

1. Molefhi

2. Lobatse

3. Francistown

4. Maun.

Even though these clubs have not yet been chattered, they have indeed shown great interest in Leo and it activities. Their efforts are highly commendable and I look forward to a great Leoistic year with these clubs. I am of great faith that Leo Region 5 will be tops very soon!

I have had club visits to two clubs this July and this was indeed beneficial to me and to the clubs, these are Leos of Madiba, Mahalapye, Kgalemang and Swaneng. The Leos brought out their grievances which included not much interaction between Leos and ideas for projects. However, after the meeting, they all promised to produce top projects and come the next convention, they will scoop all the awards. (REFER TO THE REGION MEETING REPORT ATTACHED).

Thornhill High School Leos Report September to October 08

Theme for our Leoistic year is "THERE IS NO IMPACT WITHOUT CENTRE"
 
The leos Thornhill Leos club club was inviet to the wedding of Lion Chidume of Gweru Lions club held on the 8th of September at Gweru Lions Den and the club did all the catering for the wedding, Cooking, serving a total of 200 guests and the washing of all dishes and cleaning-up after the wedding. The club got a donation in the form of a cheque ($3000.00) and this was used to pay for transport to attend the Redcliff-Leos workshop.
The Club then hosted The Senior Promenade Concert for the school leavers.The Guest Of Honour was The Gweru Lions President, Lion Victor Wasara. Other guests included Lion Ray Sibanda, The immediate Past District Governor, Lion Glorify Dr Maundukure and his wife Lion Gladis and Lion Chaka. The concert was a resounding success and the funds raised are to be used towads the Mayor's Christmas Cheer fund and the following projects..
 
NEXT PROJECTS: NOVEMBER 01- DECEMBER 01   
 
01.  Waste Paper Collction- The club is to collect all plastic containers and plastic paper then send to Chiredzi Sugar Refiners for recycle.
 
02. Mayor's Christmas Cheer fund- The Gweru Mayor has asked the Thornhill leos to organize activities for the function to be held before the 1st of October.
 
03. Tree Planting Day-The club is to plant trees at a Children's home during the first week of December.

01. Some of the club's fundraising activities were denied by the school adminstration but we feel they were just postpond.
02. Third Term is a busy schooling term with a lot of exams therefore some projects could not be carried out but as well postpond

ACTIVITIES

Campaign
We carried out a 3 day campaign from the 18th – 20th August 2008 at the University of Botswana student Centre. The event was successful and we managed to recruit more than 30 people.

Induction of new members and installation of the office bearers (24 August)
7 prospective leos were inducted. The induction was done by Lions Club Of Gaborone President Lion Pillai.
Office bearers were installed by Lion David

Food Trolley
Kgale Spar has allowed us to put up a food trolley at their store for their customers to donate food and toiletry which will be donated in Kasane during the December Service Trip.

Bookstall
We will be carrying out a bookstall at the club office starting from the 8th of October 2008. The bookstall was launched yesterday (26 September 2008) at the UB student centre.




Litter Picking (27 August 2008)
It was carried out before the Region Meeting in Lobatse. We were joined by the other clubs which attended the region meeting. It was done around Lobatse Senior Secondary School.




UPCOMING PROJECTS
Blood Donation – The famous G-west (ub) blood donation campaign will be held from the 20th-24th of October
Dinner Dance – The 2nd Annual Dinner Dance will be held on the 8th of November 2008
December Service Trip – This year we will be going to Kasane.

Message from International Headquarters
The 2nd Global Leo Conference was held during the Lions Clubs International Convention,
Bangkok, Thailand. Leos met from around the world, shared success stories, discussed how to
improve their sponsor relationships, and ways to further develop their leadership skills.
Thank you to the Leo club advisors who attended and supported the Global Leo Conference!

What’s New
Improvements to the Leo Club Program are under way! At the June 2008 board meeting, LCI’s
Board of Directors approved the new Leo brand core (what we’re made of, things we can’t change about who we are), personality (how we want people to see us, the perception we want the market to have of us), and truth (an internal and external statement of who we are and what we do).

Leo Brand Core = Community, Development, Fulfillment
Leo Brand Personality = Global, Contemporary, Friendly
Leo Brand Truth = Develop young, motivated, global leaders, who derive fun and
satisfaction from serving and strengthening the community.

The design direction for collateral materials is currently being developed and we are working on
identifying a tagline. Taglines are a brief and evocative phrase or sentence associated with the
brand name and logo that connotes the nature or character of the club. We hope you took the time to provide us with your opinion by completing the tagline survey you received earlier this month.

The creation of a Leo/Lion Advisory Panel has been approved and the Youth Programs Department is currently developing a panel member nomination form to be reviewed at the October/November 2008 board meeting.

Training Materials – As part of the Leo marketing/branding project, we are currently working on developing training tools for Leo advisors. In the interim, advisors can access the training tools currently available on the Resource Center. The LeoWMMR system will soon be available! It will enable LCI to communicate with Leo members at the club level. The Youth Programs Department is looking forward to having the ability to communicate directly with you and your club!

Leo Club Activities

The Leo Club of Kathmandu Bagmati of Nepal organized a
plantation program on June 7, 2008 for World Environment
Day. A total of 350 seedlings of different species were planted.
During plantation, Leos also collected litter from the area—
making the environment look clean, neat, and green!

The Bartlett Leo Club of Illinois, USA donated $200
to the Bartlett Park District to sponsor a kite making
session where they made over 200 kites for Earth
Day. There were over 50 kites flying outside throughout the day!

Greetings, Congratulations to Thornhill High Alphas and their patron Lady Lion Sibanda for hosting a very successful Council Meeting. Thank you to all the Leos and guests who attended. Thank you to the clubs that sent their reports in absentia. A special thanks to LDP413 Leo Stephen Besa, Leos Sarah and Mwape for traveling all the way from Zambia to take part in our Meeting. Event/Activity: Civvies Day, Camelot High School.

A Charity Civvies Day was held to raise funds to purchase Maize Meal and Mufushwa [Mani Food’s Dehydrated Vegetables] for the Rutendo Old People’s Home Of Redcliff residents. Each student was asked to attend school in civvies for a fee of $50 Billion old or $5 new. A substantial sum of $3.2 Trillion or $320 new was raised despite the end of term lull and economic woes faced by all Zimbabweans.

It was decided (by The Committee) that Maize Meal and Mufushwa were to be bought at the best possible prices so as to attain the greatest result from our work. The Mufushwa was purchased from Mrs. Smit [Lion Sarah] and the Maize Meal from Mrs. Sampunga, in total the money was used to buy 40packets of Mufushwa, each sufficient to feed a five-person party for one meal, and 100kgs of Maize Meal to be shared accordingly per meal.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Blood Donation
The Blood donation campaign has continued to be our most consistent project. It held every semester.

Last semester from the 31st of March to the 4th of April it was headed by Pro Leo Olorato. The campaign encountered some obstacles, as there was a lack of funds and as a result there were no incentives provided during the campaign. However there was greater promotion strategy for this particular campaign as mobile advertising stands were brought on campus to promote the campaign. A panel discussion was also held to promote awareness about blood donation. With these measures in place, the campaign went on with out any major problems.

FUNDRAISING
Raffle Ticket Sales
Fundraising through the sale of Lion raffle tickets was conducted during the second semester. We were to receive 20% of all proceeds generated from the tickets that we sold.
We then went for the long vacation of three months (April to July)

INTRODUCTION
I would like to thank my Leo District President, Leo Tinta Mzemba, for according me the opportunity to once again serve on the board. It is a priviledge fellow leos and one that goes a long way into developing me as a member of society. The last four or so months since my appointment have been quiet to say the least due to the anxiety created during our election period. Pre and post election activity derailed my plans to make a visit to some of the outlying areas in my region; mainly being the eastern highlands. I however managed to squeeze my way to some club functions as detailed below;

1. Leo Club of Kutama
The club has been self sufficient with regards to their membership drive. They managed to start a club at St Dominic’s Chishawasha and duly inducted members. I will be visiting this club in the near future to aid with literature and the necessary nurturing they will require. My absence there did not deter the ever active Leo Njabulo (Zone chair) from conducting the induction. On the 26th of July I attended their induction of the incoming board (2008 – 2009).

2. Leo Club of Peterhouse
Though quiet for the better part of the last few months, they have been active in their own regard. LD412 President and I attended their induction luncheon on the 31st of August 2008. Leo Tinta duly inducted them and the occasion was followed up with a rugby match pitting Peterhouse and St Georges. Their patron is Mr Taurai Mhete, 011 585 229.

3. Leo Club of St Faith
No report as I did not manage to neither get hold of them nor attend any of their projects. Mainly due to reasons beyond my control. Have spoken lately to Leo Tatenda who promised a full briefing of their activities at the 1st council meeting at Thornhill. Patron is Lion Mukoyi, 011 734 842 or 0912 496 400.

4. Leo Club of Inyanga
No report – managed to communicate with Lion Willie as the election environment did not permit my presence there. He has assured me that once things get back on track we will work hand in hand to re-energise that part of the region. Lion Willie, 0298 580 / 011 416 872 / 0912 252 958

5. Leo Club of St Marys Magdalene

8. Leo Club of Harare West
The club has taken a fresh twist to try redeeming lost pride. The emergence of a new crop of seasoned leos has ignited life back again. From a mere membership of 3-5 leos since the Easter convention, it has grown to 12 members though some are at large or inactive. Adoption of projects has taken place as well as twinning with other clubs. Sponsoring Lions Club is Harare West Lions Club. Leo Advisor is Lion Cynthia Maweni, 0912 289 463.

9. Leo Club – U.Z Campus
This has been one exciting development in Harare to which I was ably assisted by Lions Jona and Dr. Pat. Mapanda. It has faced problems from the on-set but set out not to let these get in their way. Its membership growth seems to be on the increase though their charter and sponsorship status still need attention. Praise and acknowledgement must deservedly go to its President, Leo Pritchard, who has handled a barrage of criticism with such constructiveness. He is surely marked to be a potential Leo leader within the region. Most of their projects have been disrupted by misconceptions regarding their intentions.

OVERVIEW
I am hoping to arrange a workshop for the benefit of clubs all clubs which I have not managed to get reports from but will need a lot of assistance from the Lions in the region. The status of U.Z leo club needs finality as it may deter prospectives from joining. The matter of attending council and convention meeting needs clarity as most leo members are quick to assume that the district has an obligation to finance their way. This is going to form part of my agenda when I visit these clubs and will try to ensure that they adequately fundraise for such. The past few months have seen the club membership swell slightly though the retention will definitely need a working on. The director responsible and the projects director have been working hand in hand in this regard. The dual handling of positions will be addressed after this meeting as key members have already been identified to take them up. Conducting weekly meetings has been aprox. 90% with attendance being 60% – 70 %. This is the way forward fellow Leos and I urge you to take a leaf from the above statistics.

PROJECTS
The club has been under various social and economic constraints that steered it into pushing most of it Fundraising Project to the 2nd Quarter of the Leoistic Calendar
Hence most of the projects carried out where basically services oriented.

St Josephs Boys for Home
On the 5th of July the club made a visit to St Josephs Children’s home with the main aim of fostering personal relations and making the boys aware of the functions of the Club, its intentions and future plans. This also gave us the opportunity to know the kids and find out how there daily life goes. The most prevalent problem was the lack of a soccer kit which the club has organised a Fun Day to help raise the funds to buy such

Harare Children’s Home
The Club also has been working closely with the above home. The main project is that of Tutorial. Some of the Club members have offered their time in helping the children in their studies especially the 2008 exam candidates.

The club having adopted the “LETS ENJOY OURSELVES” principle have also included the children into it as well. The club has organised to take the children on day outs to movies, recreational parks, museum and festivals such as the HIFA at the club members’ expense.

Piece Job Project
The club has embarked on a temporary employment project were club within their professional careers would offer their services and the remuneration obtained would be directed to the club for its activities. This has been a difficult task with the corporate world as we all realise that the employment status has drastically gone done but we are happy to disclose that major steps have been taken with major firms like Ernst & Young. We hope to secure most of the deals by end of August

Awareness Project

The club having noticed its membership status dwindling it embarked on a couple of awareness project and programs

Club Bins

The club has been collecting bins and paint in order to paint them with massage that relate to current pandemic such as AIDS, TB, Global Warming and Environment cleanliness

The club has opened an account with Facebook. Please do invite as your friend!

The club has been ensuring that its entire members have clothing that resembles the club or organization as a whole from T-Shirts to sweaters

Liquid soap was purchased for the car wash.

Financial Overview

Due to the hyperinflationary environment, the club did not open a bank account since this would reduce the club’s liquidity and financial flexibility. The difficulty in obtaining cash was another factor against the opening of a bank account.
The club has been able to pay its financial obligations by pegging its monthly members’ subscriptions against a foreign currency index, thus no major reviews for subscriptions have been made.
Due to the difficulty in carrying out fundraising activities, for various reasons, the charity account has maintained a nil balance throughout the past quarter.


TWINNING
This has got off to a slow start but has produced two new clubs in the Americas; namely; Leo Club Modelia Monarca (Columbia) and Leo Club Grenada (Columbia). Plans are underway to visit them as they have indicated they will assist with travelling and accommodation expenses. EXCITING!!!!!ROAR!!!!

OVERVIEW

The future promises to be brighter with most Leo members now taking a more keen interest as evidenced by the serious approach adopted.

Greetings fellow Leos, Lions and Patrons.
First off, my apologies for not being present at this council meeting for reasons beyond my control.
I took over from Leo Hazi after the last Leo convention and we worked together up until the end of the Leoistic year. During this time I’ve been faced with the challenge of uniting a rather scattered region which has never been easy for my predecessors. There are 10 active Clubs in the region:
1. Leo Club of G-West
2. Leo club of Kgalemang
3. Leo Club of Mahalapye
4. Leo Club of Tsodilo
5. Leo Club of Molepolole
6. Leo Club of Madiba
7. Leo Club of Swaneng

with most being rather inactive such clubs are
1. Leo Club of Mater Spei
2. Leo club of Selebi-Phikwe
3. Leo club of Serowe-Ikageng
4. Leo Club of Ranokanyane
These are clubs which have been chartered but have since got out of action for various reasons, and we are working on reviving these clubs.
However, there has also been entrance to the region by new clubs which are yet to be chartered. These are Prospective Leo clubs of:
1. Molefhi
2. Lobatse
3. Francistown
4. Maun.

Even though these clubs have not yet been chartered, they have indeed shown great interest in Leo and it activities. Their efforts are highly commendable and I look forward to a great Leoistic year with these clubs. I am of great faith that Leo Region 5 will be tops very soon!
I have had club visits to two clubs this July and this was indeed beneficial to me and to the clubs, these are Leos of Madiba, Mahalapye, Kgalemang and Swaneng. The Leos brought out their grievances which included not much interaction between Leos and Lions and shared ideas for projects. However, after the meeting, they all promised to produce top projects and come the next convention, they will scoop all the awards.
