Projects:

Special Olympics (10-13 august)-Leos assisted the lions in preparing and serving food to over 400 participants during the Paralympics!

A lot of hard work but at the end of the day it paid off-was definitely worth it! The joy in those children's faces kept us going from as early as 0600 till around 2200pm!!!!!

Special thanks to the lions -who battled -with us, especially Lions president, Lion Carmo-she's a strong person!

Blood donation (September)-the blood donation is held every semester, twice a year in the university campus to assist the national blood bank whose cry is persistent blood shortage and reluctance of the general public to donate blood. This semester about 250 people donated blood.

Thanks to the dedicated leos of g-west lives have been saved and they continue to be!!

*District governor's visit (25.09.06)- District 412 District Governor Major Kebby Konnie paid us a visit en route from Lobatse and Jwaneng.we had a productive meeting and were given a banner for the club and some office bearers were given pins (secretary, treasurer and president). it was a very important day for our club-the district governor is not a frequent guest in any Leo club!!!!

Molepolole prospective Leos visit (07.10.06)-we are working with the lions club of Molepolole who want to charter a new Leo club and we visited the prospective Leos to chit-chat about leoism (experiences, leoism e.t.c).

Sponsored walk (14.10.06~) Lobatse-in support of the lions club of Lobatse and to try to recruit new members for the Leo club of Lobatse which we hope to revive soon! Leos were represented and our efforts paid off, we managed to talk some young people into recruiting their friends into the club. Some extra beautiful t-shirts were given to the Leos who attended and one for the club as memorabilia.

Many thanks to the lions of Lobatse..., for everything.

HIV/AIDS workshop (28.10.06)-the workshop was held as planned with the objective of establishing a practical partnership with senior schools in Gaborone and HIV/AIDS organizations. Despite the low turn over, the workshop was quite an experience.

December service trip (04.12.06)-This is an annual trip in which several projects are undertaken including: donation of blankets, toys, grocery to an identified destitute family (we'll also spend a whole day with them doing household chores!) Books will also be donated to the primary school where we will be lodging, car wash to raise money for the grocery, litter picking and grass slashing as our clean up campaign. We will also visit the pediatric ward of the hospital. In all we will spend 1 whole week this December passionately serving the Kasane community!

Great appreciation goes to the organizing committee, Leos Gaone,Hazi and Boitshepo

Carols by candlelight (10.12.06)-various, service organizations in Gaborone including us are organizing carols by candlelight for children in Gaborone. The event will be held on 10th December 2006.these are rotary club, round club, lions club and Leo club of g-west.

Leo D412 convention 2006-2007-We will be hosting the annual Leo district 412 convention at the university of Botswana during the 2007 Easter holidays and we are depending on all our lions to help us in every possible way. We are expecting delegates from all five Leo regions. Coincidentally Leos will be 50 years old next year, we want it to be a memorable 50 years birthday at the convention.(for more info refer to the convention update)

FUND RAISING:
Braai: objective is to have it every other weekend to raise money for our Kasane December service trip. This has not been realized so far because of problems with securing a venue for the braai. However, we have had 1 braai at a fellow Leo's residence.
Bookstall: it runs every Saturday spearheaded by the lions club. We get 15% of the sales.
Donation sheets: these were provided to every member of the club to raise money for the December service trip to Kasane.

NB: many thanks to the lions club of Gaborone who have sponsored our expenses to Kwekwe.
