LDP 1st Council Meeting Report-12 August 2006

LEO DISTRICT 412

PRESIDENTS REPORT

Report to the 1st- Council Meeting held at Harare on the 12th of August 2006

Greetings to all, and I hope that we are all serving well.

Communication

Although we have not reached the desired levels in terms of our communication, I am glad to note that we are making effort to communicate fully at all levels from the clubs going all the way up. Please try by all means to communicate your activities to your region chair, the Leo Board, the Lions and International. Through communication our efforts can be recognised and thus rewarded.

Regional Meetings

Our council meeting gives us all the opportunity to meet and share ideas in various areas. This will be a platform to motivate all Leos as per our Theme this Leoistic Year. Not all of can attend these meetings and as such the region chairs will organize regional meetings now and again in the hope that all Leos have a chance to meet and learn. If a meeting is organized in your area please do make an effort to attend and learn, for it is in learning that we develop.

Leo Projects

One of the goals of our Leo program is for Leos to take a leading role in community development issues. After careful assessment of needs and thought the project takes off the ground and is implemented. The sad thing that I have noted is that although we are serving in some way ,are we getting a balance in our projects?I think we should all try to have wide ranging and different projects ranging from environmental projects, health related projects, personal development and of course our favorite, social projects. If we all aim for diversity in our projects we learn more and the community benefits more. So please can we have a variety of projects not the same projects over and over again. Don't be afraid of the challenge big projects bring, remember failure is the opportunity to start again, more intelligently and learn in the process .so go for it, what have you got to lose.

Membership:

We continue to have a steady membership base despite the problems that most Leos in Zimbabwe are facing. Leos in Malawi and Botswana are still serving but need a lot of motivation to help them serve better.

October is membership growth month. This is a month when all our clubs should focus our efforts on membership growth. Clubs should come up with different strategies on how to increase and retain members. Should you have more questions on this issue and how to plan your strategy please contact your Region Chair.
As an added incentive Leos who recruit three or more new members in October can receive the Leo Club Membership Growth Award. This is a lapel pin that will be award. Leo club advisors submitt(to the youth department at International Headquarters) their name and mailing address; the name of the Leo to receive the award : and the names of the new Leo Members. The closing date for the request is 30 November

So fellow Leos and Lions lets add new blood in our clubs. Remember that the only way a club can grow is to recruit new member to offset the ones that leave our clubs. Without this addition we would not have clubs after members leave.

District Dues

I know the Treasurer will have a lot to say regarding the payment of district dues. If your club has not paid its dues please do so, to help the district run smoothly

Finally, Allow me to take this opportunity to thank all my board members who are helping me. The teamwork that they have displayed is exemplary and they have been sure good team players. Keep it up fellow Leos

Also to all the Lions and Leo Patron for the various clubs in the district, I say to you, Thank you for showing faith in the Leo programe and the trust in the Leos and allowing them to serve. We don't take all your efforts for granted and thank you all

Fellow Leos, Lions and Friends remember to enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and see that they were big things!
